Papaya juice for protein digestion
Papaya juice is a true hero! Papaya, or pawpaw, not only tastes good - it makes a thick, slightly sweet juice - but it has numerous health benefits.
The enzymes in papaya are a terrific aid to protein digestion. The main one is papain which cleanses and tones the stomach and intestines. Besides being a brilliant juice cleanse, there are many other benefits listed below our recipe:
♡ Halve the fruit then remove most of the small black seeds
♡ Remove the tough skin from both halves of the papaya fruit using a sharp knife
♡ Slice into chunks to fit your juicer (ours is a Twin Gear masticator)
♡ Peel two oranges and quarter both.
♡ Slice an apple with skin on.
♡ Get Juicing! But go slow if using a masticator as it gets a little mushy in there. Give it time.
♡ Makes three large glasses of delicious, sweet but not too sweet juice.
We use the larger hole mesh net to allow plenty of the fruit's fibre through and our twin gear machine puts out less pulp (the pulp can be used to treat wounds, by the way). Add carrots for extra heart and liver health power!
Other health benefits of papaya
☻ High in vitamin C and beta-carotene. Plus minerals potassium, calcium, iron, phosphorous, sodium and magnesium.
☻ Encourages good bacteria in the gut and is recommended if you have been taking antibiotics.
☻ Good for heart health
☻ Stimulates the immune system and the juice is thought to suppress the growth of liver cancer cells, so is essential in a liver cancer diet. It also helps protect the kidneys against toxins.
☻ The seeds are quite spicy and can be used as an alternative to black pepper.
Papaya juice is great for all-round health, especially as a digestive juice cleanse.
